Grammar

This is the section for grammar. Strap in because this is going to be a looong one.

Nouns

Middle Angfar has two noun genders, Common and Neuter. Gender affects definite articles, and adjective endings.

Examples

Cases

Cases come in two flavors. Common, the basic form, and Possessive, the other one. It's a lot like the difference between "the cat" and "the cat's" in English. However, in Middle Angfar, that'd be sē kätteas.

Plurals

Plurals are formed with -ēr. For instance, sē cynīngēr is the kings, and þē hūsēr is the houses.

Articles

Articles are gendered. The common article is , and the neuter article is þē. Also, theres the indefinite article ān, alongside the demonstrative articles þys and þät.

Adjectives

Adjectives always come before nouns. This is exactly like how it works in English and most Germanic languages. Below is a table to demonstrate what endings adjectives take.

Gender Case
Noun Type Ending
Common -e
Neuter none
Plural -e

For instance, sē gōde cynīng would be the good king, whereas þē gōd hūs would be the good house.

Comparison

Comparison in Middle Angfar is much like English. See below for a table.

Degree Ending
Comparative -ar
Superlative -ast

For instance, sē gōdar hūs would be the better house, whereas þē gōdast hūs would be the best house.

Verbs

Verbs in Middle Angfar have two tenses, present and past, much like English. Most verbs are regular, but some are irregular. Don't worry, Modern Angfar will regularize them. Middle Angfar just exists because I thought it'd be cool to have a middle version.

English Present Past
love lūffe lūffet

For instance, yk lūffe þē would be I love you, whereas yk lūffet þē would be I loved you. Also, regular verbs are formed with -et.

English Present Past
love lūffe lūffet
eat ēate ēatet
sleep slīpe slīpet
walk ƿalke ƿalket
run rūnne rūnnet
work ƿyrke ƿyrket
live līve līvet
learn lēarne lēarnet
teach tēace tēacet
hear hēare hēaret
listen lyssne lyssnet
call jelle jellet
ask äske äsket
answer andswērt andswērtet
be bēnnet
have häbbe häbbed
do dōe dōnnet
go gäe gäet
come kūme komet
see saēt
make mäkke mädet
take täkke tūket
drink drynke dranket
speak sprēak sprōket

Also, verbs do NOT conjugate per person. This means they only conjugate for tense. I think.

Pronouns are below. Note that they are independent words and do not change based on verb conjugation.
